Digital Literacy: How to teach and embed tech into the curriculum and teach digital literacy?2/24/2019 My favorite quote from this week's exploration of information was, "How can we leverage the opportunities to prepare young learners for globally connected learners and information saturated world?" (Teaching with Educational Technology video) As a learner myself, I am still trying to find:
After this week of exploring the apps, tools and teaching website curriculum support I realize how endless the resources are to support kids learning. I found a few that would be helpful with my own kids at home (Raz Kids, IXL, Freckle, Ed Puzzle, and Tynker) and some that I would like to experiment with at school on Tech Tuesdays (StoryBird, Matific, Canva, Tes Teach with Blendspace). It takes time to develop the tools that are most effective to me and my own personal curriculum and what I am willing to pay to use these products. I am taking it slow and starting with the free ones that I can try out with students to try out and get feedback on. Having time to coordinate with colleagues to develop an annual lesson plan coordinated with technology is next on my list for site CIP time. Working with teachers, students and staff to have a more unified goal and plan is that key to success.

I just going to come out and say it: I'm stealing your idea. What a great idea to start Tech Tuesday. Just like you, I want to take time to really understand the technology that is available to us, and figure out where and when to apply it to my Benchmark Advance ELA CORE, ELD and Intervention classes. I wish we had a day where the reading specialist could sit together and share ideas with each other. That to me sounds so much more beneficial than the last RS meeting we had. I think I will send Tracey and Karly an email asking if that would be possible. Thank you for the inspiration!

Hi Monica! I like what you identified you still would like to discover as a learner, especially when you wrote that you would like to find fun ways to incorporate interactive learning. I absolutely love your “Tech Tuesdays,” and your students always come back to their homerooms excited about what they just learned from you! You have inspired me to start "Tech Tuesday" as well!

Monica this is so great Tech Tuesdays! I just want to give you KUDOS for taking risk and trying new things with your students. The world is changing fast and education needs to keep up . I so agree this all take time to play with and learn it is worth it but I would love to see more PD opportunities. I just want to share an observation I have made as I bring google forms into my teaching and that is that our special ed students seem to be able to access things better especially since picture and videos can be added. Technology seems to make material more accessible for all students.

I love how open you have been to experimentation and introducing “Tech Tuesday” to your classes. Starting small and rolling out segments of digital literacy is the perfect way for you to get comfortable with all of the technology available to your students before you start incorporating tech into every unit, project or daily lesson.
