So the end is near. I have mixed feelings because of the friends and the accomplishments that I have made during the past year. I will not miss the work load, but the friends and colleagues that I have made to process my profession to be a better person and teacher. Looking back to realize all that I have learned in technology in the this past year is nothing that I could have imagined.
My favorite parts were learning so many digital tools, compiling a list of resources to use in my classroom and share tips and tricks on how to use them. There is nothing like having a community of like-minded people that love doing what you enjoy doing and learning it together. It has not been an easy path with three sons in elementary school, but this is who I did this for, my sons. I wanted to set and example for them to see what happens when you are dedicated and work hard. Through this year I have worked, coached soccer, got a divorced, survived my kids through 10 sports teams, changed jobs, move grade levels and moved classrooms. My year has in no way been easy or stress-less, but I DID IT! And if I can do this, I can do anything. I look forward to testing and exploring all that I have learned into my new grade and share all that I have learned with my new staff. My next steps will be making decisions about what I will do with all of the time on my hands without 8-12 hours a week of homework and class time. I look forward to exploring where I can go in my next adventure.

"Transliteracy is a fluidity of movement across a range of technologies, media and contexts'. It is an ability to use diverse techniques to collaborate across different social groups. Transliteracy combines a range of capabilities required to move across a range of contexts, media, technologies and genres." (Wikipedia)
Being able to read is valuable and has a place in this world, but it is drastically changing into future skills that are able to map meaning across a range of platforms, tools, media, social networks and more. Having the skill set to change literacy to be relevant to students today has changed my teaching to better suit the youth of today to be prepared with more useful skills for tomorrow's changing world.
I have become much more versed this year in learning new ways to connect and teach my students that gives them an edge for tomorrow. I have only just begun to dabble in what is possible out there in terms of the possibilities of Transliteracy in education. I plan on taking this idea with me next year to develop and plan my units and lessons to incorporate dynamic lessons that inspire students that are motivated to learn and look forward to school each and every day. As it comes down to the final weeks the glitches never seem to fail me. I am learning all sorts of technology ducks and weaves. It has been a busy week with the holiday and having 4 kids in tow on my own. My wifi was down for two days when I started my homework, I made a Screenomatic for my elevator speech and figured out how to imput it and the sound was too low in volume and sounded totally different. I had to cut it. I had Adobe Spark crash on me with the message saying something about GL platform for use and I could not go any further as I was re-recording my final slide. I just kept going because I really would like to be done with homework and start preparing for my new school year.
Ninety seconds was extremely challenging to get all of the materials in and cut things that I thought added value to the message and I had to record multiple times to stay with-in the time limit. I am hoping that I didn't cut too much. I fully plan on reaching out to my Cohort 16 family even though I don't see them weekly. They have offered so much knowledge and advice that I can't see coming to a challenge and not using them as a soundboard or problem solvers without them. They have become my technology foundation. |
